Better Birmingham
Moving Freely, Living Fully

Better Birmingham’s core mission is to build a city designed for people, not cars. We work to create safe, accessible, and vibrant communities where walking, biking, and public transit are real options for everyone—regardless of age, income, or ability. By advocating for people-first policies, abundant housing, and good governance, we aim to make Birmingham a place where mobility is a right, streets are safe, and neighborhoods thrive
Our Mission
Better Birmingham is a people-first advocacy organization dedicated to shaping a city where everyone can move freely, safely, and with dignity. We believe great cities are built around communities, not cars, and we champion policies that prioritize safe streets, accessible public transit, affordable housing, and vibrant public spaces. Through education, collaboration, and civic engagement, we work to ensure Birmingham grows into a connected, inclusive, and livable city for all.
Our Vision
We envision a Better Birmingham where streets are safe and vibrant, housing is affordable and diverse, public spaces foster community, and urban systems support a high quality of life for all—today and for future generations.
Our Goals
-
To empower Birmingham residents to actively shape their neighborhoods through education, organizing, and inclusive civic engagement.
-
To influence urban policy and development decisions so that Birmingham becomes more equitable, sustainable, and people-first.
-
To advance and secure the adoption of urban policies that expand affordable housing, prioritize safe multimodal mobility, and strengthen public space.
